17th -18th and 21st-25th November 2022
We would like to invite you to join us in an exciting project we are going to be creating this Christmas time. For the past couple of years pre-Covid Eastleigh Baptist Church has run a weekend event where members of the public have been able to immerse themselves within the Christmas story in a new and exciting way, through the creation of an interactive labyrinth. Pre-Covid we invited a number of schools to come and visit this interactive learning environment. Many attended and found it a fantastic experience for staff and students alike.

This year Eastleigh Baptist Church are building another labyrinth which will allow people to physically journey through the Christmas story. You will meet the characters, complete challenges and engage with various games and activities all of which will be designed to explore the story of that first Christmas.

To get an idea of what a section may contain here is a description of what we did last year for one of our sections: the shepherds watching their sheep in the hilltop. In this section children met an angel character who told them the story of the shepherds. In the specially designed set the children then had the opportunity to consider the reality of shepherding with an interactive quiz, have a go at drawing a picture of an angel and comparing it to a biblical description, creating a three dimensional sheep with limited materials, having an opportunity to experiment with various musical instruments and more.

This project has been planned with input from a number of experienced teachers in order to ensure that the event is of excellent quality and also that it can fulfil some of the religious education criteria set for Hampshire schools. Key concepts such as 'Celebration', 'Special Journeys', 'Angels', 'Incarnation' and 'Interpretation' can all be aided by various elements of this event. Of course if you have different goals or concepts you are teaching then we are more than happy to adapt to ensure that this event supports your RE curriculum, please feel free to talk to us about it.

Please be assured that, in the presentation of this project, all reference to Christian beliefs will be labelled as such rather than stated as fact. In doing so we hope to make this project an appropriate learning experience for all faiths and cultures.
There is no cost to this event but in order to make sure it is viable, it would be great if you could register your interest either for one or more classes using the contact details below by Friday 21st October . We will then call or email you to discuss further. Should we be oversubscribed, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If you would like to ask questions or discuss what arrangements could be made for your school before registering for a place, please don’t hesitate to contact us, again using the details below. |
